1. What is outplacement?

Outplacement is job search coaching for people impacted by a downsizing or restructuring at their company. The design and purpose of outplacement is to help you get your job search up and running quickly and efficiently. We believe that getting out there quickly and becoming reemployed is in your best interest. Outplacement services range from clarifying a new career direction (if needed) and creating an eye-catching resume to navigating an ever-changing job market and mastering a variety of interview questions. Outplacement is short-term and focused on your re-employment.

2. How can outplacement help me?

With job loss comes a loss of income, identity, friendships and purpose. We don’t want you to hit bottom, we want to catch you and redirect you into an active and productive job search as quickly as possible.  When your mind is spinning and you are wondering what your next move should be, we are busy working with you on processing your job loss and beginning to create and polish your resume and marketing materials. In some cases, certain job types no longer exist and you will need to step back to explore career alternatives. If that sounds like your situation then we will work with you to uncover and assess your personality preferences, talents, skills, accomplishments, values, strengths, education and experiences to see where they might fit in today’s workplace. Whether you need to step back to assess where you are going or are ready to jump into a job search, we can assist you along the way.

3. Who pays for outplacement?

Outplacement is most often an employer-paid service. In some cases a company already has an outplacement provider all lined up to provide services to their affected employees. In other cases a company has no idea that outplacement even exists and has not offered any type of severance package to its employees. At CareerCounseling.com we have worked with employees in both circumstances. First, we are often all lined up when a downsizing is happening and the departing employees are offered our outplacement services. We have also worked with individuals who have not received an outplacement package via their employer and we have suggested that they ask their employer if they will provide outplacement services. In this situation, the employer will either pay CareerCounseling.com directly or will reimburse its employees.

4. Do you maintain confidentiality?

Yes, everything we talk about is confidential. We will not share any information at any time for any reason to anyone. We know that in order to move forward quickly with your job search you need to be able to vent. We offer you that opportunity without fear of repercussions. Even though we are paid for by your former company the only communication they receive from us is the invoice for outplacement services.

5. Which package is right for me?

Bronze Package 

If you are needing a quick fix and are ready to jump right into your job search or perhaps you have been searching for a bit and not coming up with any interviews, then this package is most likely the perfect fit. The Bronze Package is designed to give you exactly what you need to hit the ground running. If you know the career direction you will be pursuing, but need help marketing yourself then you will benefit from this package.

Silver Package

The Silver Package is designed for individuals who have been out of the job market for a while. In addition to the services offered in the Bronze Package, you will gain up-to-date job search skills and techniques as well as personalized interview training and coaching. We understand that when getting back into the swing of a job search you may need additional support so are offering 2 months of email support to help you as you navigate your job search.

Gold Package

The Gold Package is our premier package offering the full range of outplacement services from career testing to social media management. You will receive all of the services of both the Bronze and Silver packages in addition to career/personality testing (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), social media branding and online job search management. You will also receive 3 months of email support during your ongoing job search.

6. What if I don’t fit into one of these packages?

Good question!! We understand that not everyone fits into a ‘package’. If you don’t fit into any of our packages we would be happy to customize your outplacement services. If you wanted to swap one service for another we are always happy to create just the service you need to get you back into the workforce quickly and efficiently. Just ask.

7. Can I use outplacement services even if I didn’t get downsized?

Well, yes you can! We offer very similar packages under our Career Coaching Services tab. However, whichever service makes the most sense to you in your particular situation will work for us. Again, just ask!

8. What if I live in another state?

We are based in Maine, so if you live in Maine and prefer a face-to-face session then we can arrange that. However, with most of our outplacement clients, even those living in Maine, we meet via pre-arranged telephone coaching sessions with email flowing freely in between our telephone sessions.

9. What is the cost of outplacement counseling?

Bronze Package – $750

Silver Package – $1000

Gold Package – $1500
